Carla David Design: How did you get inspired to start your own company?

Jennifer Domenick:  I believe I was always meant to be a business owner, even though I was not clear about that until much later in my life. A good deal of my relatives own their own small business, including my father, who not only inspired me to become a photographer, but who also provided a model for business owning and the lifestyle that comes with it. I’ve always been strong willed with my own ideas and it’s hard to reconcile that within a large organization such as a newspaper, the industry I worked in for years before owning my own business. I love being my own boss and the freedom it provides me to make my own decisions.

CDD: What are some exciting or unique details about your services?

JD: I think the most important detail about our services is a finalized album. Digital photography has transformed the way we take photos with amazing technology, however, we no longer have printed photographs. Many of our images are stored on a hard drive, or in “the cloud.” How will your children see those images? We want you to have a finished, printed album from your wedding- made with archival materials with gorgeous professional prints that you can hold and pass along to your children. We offer the best album companies we could find and we offer our professional advice to help sort through the hundreds of images from your wedding and create simple, elegantly designed album. CDD: What makes you happiest about what you do?

JD: There are so many rewarding things about wedding photography. I cherish the families that trust us with this important moment, and the couples who give us freedom to do what we do best. I also enjoy being a mentor to talented photographers, watching them blossom and become truly amazing wedding photographers.

CDD: How would you describe your photographic style?

JD: I come from a background in newspaper photography, and that experience fuels the style of photography throughout all of the photography we provide. We focus on documenting real moments that happen all throughout the wedding day as well as great portraiture that is real, not posed.

CDD: How do you link a client’s personality to the photographs you produce?

JD: It is very important to us to create images that represent the true personality of the couple. If the images are not real, then we haven’t done our job very well. It’s part of being a photojournalist to find out about the couple – are they shy and uncomfortable with public affection? Are they openly and widely romantic and love to show it? Does the couple have a great story behind how they met? Do they have mutual interests such as sports or politics that are central to the relationship? This is important to capturing images that are honest and real documentary wedding photographs.
